Introduction to Facilitation

& Advanced Facilitation Skills

This interactive 6-hour training will provide an introduction to group facilitation and also present advanced facilitation skills. Participants will learn the basics of facilitating meetings and other group conversations, and key skills to use when issues arise. Participants will have the opportunity to practice facilitating and will refine their skill set to address conflict occurring within teams.

This virtual training takes place via Zoom from 9am - 3pm EST. Participants must be available via video and audio for the duration of the training. We will break for one-hour for lunch.

 

Registration fee: $250.00 per person

Conflict Resolution

This interactive 6-hour training includes a comprehensive introduction to Conflict Resolution, active listening, reflective skills, de-escalation, "I" statements, problem-solving, and how to apply these skills to high-conflict situations.

 

This virtual training takes place via Zoom from 9am - 3pm EST. Participants must be available via video and audio for the duration of the training. We will break for one-hour for lunch.

Job title: LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist (Temporary Position)

Supervisor- Diversion Program Coordinator

Open to both full-time and part-time applicants

Pay - $20.60 an hour

SUMMARY

The LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist empowers individuals and families in the LGBTQ+ community who are facing homelessness or housing insecurity so they can chart their own path back to or remain in stable housing. They also provide support as needed to assist with implementing their plan.

The LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist's role supports persons who are newly homeless or housing insecure by helping to identify and implement strategies that will prevent them from entering or re-entering the shelter system. And if the client cannot immediately avoid a shelter stay, the LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist supports them in exploring other options to prevent a longer stay in shelter.  The LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist will use an empowerment approach based on conflict theory to bolster the person’s own ability to think for themselves, weigh and consider options, advocate for their own needs and ultimately act on their own behalf. 

Schedule is in-person on Mondays and Thursdays, with the option of virtual work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The hours of operation fall between 9AM-5PM.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  1. Meets with individuals and families in the LGBTQ+ community in shelter to explore alternative housing options so they can reduce their stay in shelter and provides guidance in accessing grievance procedures should they face discrimination in shelter
  2. Connects individuals and families in the LGBTQ+ community with appropriate community resources and linkages as needed so they can avoid returning to shelter or face housing insecurity in the future.
  3. Mediates conflicts with family members, landlords, and others to promote stable housing.
  4. Enters program data into Excel Spreadsheets and reports out to supervisor.
  5. Outreaches to other agencies in the community to promote the program to increase referrals.
  6. LGBTQ+ Diversion Specialist will support family diversion cases as needed.
  7. Establishes an in-person presence at homeless shelters and LGBTQ+ supporting organizations to connect with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community.
  8. Ensures compliance with documentation/record keeping for agency and project, funding and accreditation requirements by maintaining and reporting accurate and timely documentation and statistical data.
  9. Complies with federal, state, and local laws, and professional standards of conduct.
  10. Other duties as requested.

  1. Speaks and acts in a manner that is sensitive and responsive to a person’s ethnic, cultural and developmental background, to any disabling conditions, and to conditions that may affect the person’s ability to form accurate perceptions, process information, understand directions, and communicate important information.
  2. Consistently interacts with members of this and other organizations in a respectful, professional manner.
  3. Participates in various standing, functional and ad hoc committee groups.
  4. Maintains current awareness of new developments in the field by reading professional literature and attending conferences and seminars.
  5. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

Prior work and knowledge in mediation and/or conflict resolution. 

Commitment and ability to engage in an empathetic, non-judgmental way with people in stressful situations – to establish rapport in order to help them resolve their immediate housing crisis and commitment to treating people in the LGBTQ+ community and all others with dignity and respect.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

  1. Developed knowledge of homelessness, and related community resources.
  2. Knowledge of agency policies and procedures, goals and objectives, with a commitment to respect, understand, and promote the mission, values and goals of the agency, particularly that of anti-racism
  3. Be willing to attend Safe Space training and espouse the philosophy of being a Safe Space for those in the LGBTQ+ community.
  4. Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  5. Creative and flexible problem-solving skills.
  6. Team building skills; organizational and staff development skills.
  7. Highly effective communication, listening, interpersonal, and mediation skills.
  8. Computer skills; word processing and spreadsheet software capabilities.
